Viruses are generally excluded from the traditional five-kingdom classification system (proposed by Whittaker) because they are considered acellular entities. They lack the cellular machinery required for independent metabolism and reproduction, existing instead as obligate intracellular parasites that require a host cell to replicate their genetic material.

Carolus Linnaeus, the father of modern taxonomy, developed his classification system based on the concept of 'fixity of species.' He believed that species were created in their current form and did not change over time, which stands in direct contrast to the later evolutionary theories proposed by Charles Darwin.
