Constitution of 1973

No person shall be authorized for detention for more than three months unless the appropriate Review Board reports sufficient cause [9].

For Federal law detentions, the Board is appointed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan [10].

Article 10A states that for the determination of civil rights and obligations or in any criminal charge, a person shall be entitled to a fair trial and due process [11].

Article 11(3) prohibits children below the age of fourteen years from being engaged in any factory, mine, or hazardous employment [12].

Article 12 ensures that no law shall authorize the punishment of a person for an act that was not punishable by law at the time the act was committed [13].

Article 13 protects against being prosecuted for the same offence twice and against being compelled to be a witness against oneself [14].

Article 14(1) states that the dignity of man and, subject to law, the privacy of home shall be inviolable [14].

Article 17(2) requires the Federal Government to refer such matters to the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan within fifteen days [15].

Article 19A grants every citizen the right to have access to information in all matters of public importance [16].

Article 21 states no person shall be compelled to pay any special tax the proceeds of which are spent on the propagation or maintenance of any religion other than his own [17].

Article 25(2) explicitly mandates that there shall be no discrimination on the basis of sex [18].

Article 25A requires the State to provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age of five to sixteen years [18].

The proviso to Article 27(1) was amended to substitute 'twenty' with 'forty' years [19, 20].

Article 29(1) states it is the responsibility of each organ and authority of the State to act in accordance with these Principles [21, 22].

Article 32 mandates that the State shall encourage local Government institutions and provide special representation to peasants, workers, and women [23, 24].

Article 38(f) was substituted to require the elimination of riba completely before the first day of January, 2028 [25].

Article 41(2) states a person is not qualified for election as President unless he is a Muslim of not less than 45 years of age [26].

Article 41(3) defines the electoral college as the members of both Houses and the members of the Provincial Assemblies [27].

Article 44(1) states the President shall hold office for a term of five years from the day he enters upon office [28].

Article 47(1) specifies these three grounds for removal or impeachment [29].
