Pakistan Navy

Manora Island protects the Karachi harbor and has been a site of military activity for centuries. Today, it houses several naval training establishments, including the Naval Academy and the Maritime Security Agency headquarters.

Pakistan has signed a massive contract with China to acquire eight Hangor-class submarines (based on the Type 039B). Four are being built in China and four in Karachi. These submarines will feature modern AIP systems and advanced combat management systems.

Cadets typically undergo about 1.5 to 2 years of intensive training at PNS Rahbar. This includes sea terms and academic semesters. Upon graduation, they are commissioned as Acting Sub Lieutenants and proceed for further professional specialization.

The Pakistan Navy War College is situated in Lahore. It provides professional military education to senior officers (usually Commanders and above) to prepare them for higher staff and command appointments.

PNS Babur was the flagship of the Pakistan Navy during Operation Dwarka. It was a Dido-class cruiser that played a central role in the successful mission against the Indian radar station.

The naval rank of Commodore is equivalent to Air Commodore in the Pakistan Air Force and Brigadier in the Pakistan Army. These are all one-star ranks.

PNS Karsaz is located in Karachi. It is the hub for technical education where sailors and officers of the marine engineering and electrical branches receive their professional training.

PNS Akram is the naval base located at Gwadar. It provides the necessary support and security for the strategic port and monitors maritime traffic in the western coastal region of Pakistan.

Pakistan and Turkey have collaborated on the Milgem (Babur-class) project. Four corvettes are being built, two in Istanbul and two in Karachi. These ships are equipped with advanced stealth features and local missile systems like the Harbah.

Admiral Naveed Ashraf assumed command as the 16th Chief of Naval Staff on October 7, 2023. He is responsible for the operational readiness and strategic direction of the Pakistan Navy.

PNS Aslat was sent to the port of Mukalla in Yemen to evacuate Pakistani and foreign nationals during the civil war. The mission was a success and was widely praised for its humanitarian effort.

The Naval Ensign of Pakistan is a white flag with the National Flag in the upper left corner (canton). This is flown by all commissioned warships of the Pakistan Navy.

The rank of Captain in the Navy is equivalent to a Colonel in the Army and a Group Captain in the Air Force. It is a senior officer rank that typically involves the command of a large ship or a major administrative role.

Naval Cadet College Ormara was established as part of the Navy's social uplift programs. It provides quality education to students from across Pakistan, with a special quota for students from Balochistan, to encourage them to join the armed forces.

PNS Hamza was commissioned with the French-designed MESMA AIP system. This made the Pakistan Navy one of the few in the world at the time to possess such advanced stealth technology, which allows submarines to remain submerged for much longer than standard diesel-electric boats.

The P-3C Orion is a highly capable long-range maritime patrol aircraft. It is equipped with advanced sensors for detecting submarines and surface vessels and can carry Harpoon missiles for offensive missions.

PNS Bahadur is a premier tactical training establishment in Karachi. It provides specialized training to officers and sailors in various disciplines, including surface warfare, navigation, and communications.
