PM Benazir Bhutto Government (1988–1990, 1993–1996)

The second dismissal of Benazir's government was based on a combination of factors. These included a deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, high-level corruption allegations, and a direct confrontation with the judiciary over the appointment of judges.

In a shock move, President Farooq Leghari dismissed his own party's government on November 5, 1996. This event highlighted the immense power still held by the President under the 8th Amendment.

Malik Meraj Khalid, a veteran politician and former Speaker of the National Assembly, was appointed as the caretaker Prime Minister. He oversaw the 1997 elections which brought Nawaz Sharif back to power.
