Umar discouraged Muslims from reading Jewish scriptures. He feared confusion and dilution of Qur’an’s authority. He wanted Muslims to focus on the final revelation. This preserved Islamic creed.

Umar emphasized justice as the essence of governance. He believed injustice destroys nations. His commitment made his Caliphate admired even by non-Muslims. Justice was his greatest legacy.

After Umar’s conversion, Muslims gained strength. This verse highlighted the importance of believers supporting the Prophet ﷺ. Umar’s faith changed the balance of power in Makkah. His courage boosted Muslim morale.

Umar initially opposed Islam and even set out to kill the Prophet ﷺ. He later embraced Islam after hearing Qur’an in Surah Ta-Ha. His conversion strengthened Muslims. His courage became a major asset to Islam.

Umar was stabbed by Abu Lu’lu, a Persian slave, while leading Fajr prayer in 644 CE. He lived a few days after the attack. Before death, he appointed a shura to choose the next Caliph. His assassination was a great tragedy for Muslims.

Umar established jizyah for non-Muslims under Islamic rule. They paid tax in return for protection and exemption from military service. This system ensured justice and coexistence. Many chose Islam voluntarily.

In 637 CE, Muslims under Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas captured Ctesiphon, the Sassanid capital. This marked the collapse of Persian power. Umar’s leadership expanded Islam deep into Persia. This victory reshaped the Middle East.

The Battle of Yarmouk in 636 CE was a decisive victory against Byzantines. Khalid ibn al-Walid led the Muslims to triumph. This battle secured Syria for Islam. It is considered one of history’s most important military encounters.

The Prophet ﷺ gave Umar the title al-Faruq, meaning the one who distinguishes truth from falsehood. This was because of his strong sense of justice. His firmness protected Islam and Muslims. The title reflects his bold character.

Abu Bakr calmed the companions when grief overwhelmed them. He recited Qur’an: “Muhammad is but a Messenger; messengers have passed away before him” (3:144). This restored clarity and faith among Muslims. His statement is remembered as a defining moment of leadership.
