Akbar divided his empire into 12 (later 15) 'Subahs' or provinces. Each was headed by a 'Subahdar' (governor) and had its own administrative staff, including a Diwan (revenue), Bakshi (military), and Qadi (judicial), creating a uniform system across the realm.

Babur died in Agra but requested to be buried in his favorite city, Kabul. His remains were later moved to the terraced garden he had commissioned, which remains a site of historical importance in Afghanistan today.
