The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan Order 2018 was introduced to further empower the local government of GB. It replaced the 2009 order and transferred more administrative and financial powers to the local assembly, bringing the region's governance closer to that of a full province.

The Khyber Pass is located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. It connects the town of Landi Kotal to the Valley of Peshawar and serves as a vital bridge between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Historically, it has been one of the most important mountain passes in the world for trade and military expeditions.

Gilgit-Baltistan occupies a highly strategic location, sharing borders with China to the north, Afghanistan (via the Wakhan Corridor) to the west, and the Indian-administered territory of Jammu and Kashmir to the southeast. It serves as the physical link for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The Pothohar Plateau is located in the northern part of Punjab. It is bounded on the east by the Jhelum River and on the west by the Indus River. The plateau is known for its diverse topography, including hills and valleys, and is home to the capital city, Islamabad, and the military headquarters in Rawalpindi.

Both Sindh and Balochistan are the only provinces of Pakistan that have coastlines along the Arabian Sea. Sindh's coastline includes the Indus Delta and Karachi, while Balochistan's coastline (the Makran Coast) stretches toward the Iranian border and hosts the deep-sea port of Gwadar.

Balochistan is the largest province of Pakistan by land area, covering approximately 347,190 square kilometers, which accounts for about 44% of the country's total land mass. Despite its size, it is the least populous province due to its rugged terrain and arid climate.

Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) is the federal capital of Pakistan. It is a distinct administrative unit not part of any province, established in the 1960s to replace Karachi as the nation's capital for strategic and administrative reasons.

The 25th Amendment, passed in May 2018, formally merged the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) into the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This move aimed to bring the tribal regions into the mainstream political and legal fold of the country.

Sindh is often referred to as Bab-ul-Islam because it was the first region in the Indian subcontinent to come under Muslim rule following the conquest by Muhammad bin Qasim in 712 AD, which paved the way for the spread of Islam in the region.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is an administratively autonomous territory that possesses its own government structure, including a President as the head of state and a Prime Minister as the head of government, reflecting its specific constitutional status.

Pakistan currently consists of four provinces: Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Other regions like Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir have special administrative statuses but are not formally classified as provinces under the constitution.

Gilgit serves as the administrative capital and the headquarters of the Gilgit-Baltistan region. It is a major hub for tourism and trade, historically serving as an important stop on the ancient Silk Road.

Punjab is the most populous province of Pakistan, housing more than 50% of the country's total population. Its fertile lands and industrial hubs make it the economic and demographic heartland of the nation.

The Karakoram Highway (KKH), also known as the Friendship Highway, connects Pakistan with China. It crosses the Karakoram mountain range through the Khunjerab Pass in Gilgit-Baltistan, reaching an elevation of over 4,600 meters.

Among the four provinces, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is the smallest by land area, even after the merger of FATA. It is characterized by mountainous terrain and a strategic location bordering Afghanistan.

Gwadar is a deep-sea port located on the southwestern coast of Balochistan. It is a centerpiece of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and is expected to become a major regional trade hub.

The Islamabad Capital Territory is governed directly by the Federal Government of Pakistan through the Ministry of Interior. The Chief Commissioner is appointed to oversee the administrative affairs of the territory.

Peshawar is the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is one of the oldest living cities in South Asia, serving as a historic gateway between Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent.

The Hindu Kush mountain range is located in the north and west of Pakistan, primarily in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, forming a natural border with Afghanistan.

Balochistan has the longest coastline in Pakistan, stretching over 770 kilometers along the Arabian Sea. This coastline is strategically important for the country's maritime trade and naval operations.
